Mary Hatch

She has had a stong interest in art beginning painting and art classes when she was twelve, and visiting the Dallas Museum of Art, and  The Chicago Art Institute regularly made an impression on her style by seeing famous paintings. She studied art at UT Arlington, and transferred in her junior year to the Architecture department from the Art department, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture. She studied printmaking at TCU and the University of Dallas , and is a registered Texas Architect and Interior Designer.  Seeing other museums also created a great love for art including the Kimbell Art Museum, Louvre, Prada, Kunsthistorisches, Ufizzi, and The National Gallery.

In the late 70s, she participated in gallery art shows, university exhibits and Dallas Woman’s Caucus of Art and Texas Visual Artist competitions. In the mid 80’s she met the abstract expressionist, Herbert Ferber, at his art exhibition at Adams Middleton Gallery in Dallas . His vast canvases with sculptured facade inspired her to paint large.

Flora and Feather series is influenced by the allegorical style of the paintings from the Italian Renaissance period, with an assemblage of flowers, landscape and birds. New Mexico Series is influenced by the palette from the Post Impressionist style. A lot of her work is concentrated on landscapes of vineyards, farmlands of Tuscany, the Midwest farmland, and California seascapes.

Her art has been influenced by a combination of her education, family encouragement, and interests in architecture and art history. After painting seascapes and studio figures in California for three years, she relocated back to her home in Texas. She is exploring new venues and expressions of art including abstract seascapes.
